Based on a recommendation from a friend, I went to dinner at Pamplemousse. As usual, I sat at the bar (although the dining room was full anyway, so there wasn't a choice this time). It was that last day of track season in Del Mar, and I think they were a bit busier than normal. I started out with their arugula salad which was simple, but quite good. One interesting note was that there was an A capella quartet that was roaming around the restaurant singing to random patrons. Not really my thing, but they were quite good. The main course was the mixed grill. The pork and filet were excellent and the lamb was OK. The truffle mashed potatoes which came as a side was quite good as well. Truffles are an ingredient that really required a light touch, but they were well used here. All in all, the service was OK...friendly, but I think they were a bit busy. It didn't feel like what one would expect based on the prices, but I'll give them a mulligan since it was a big track crown. All and all, a good experience.
