I had the lamb and it was prepared perfectly. The restaurant is nicely appointed, the staff helpful and friendly. Great spot, great food.
Suite and Tender is a fairly new (hotel) restaurant on the Gaslamp's 5th avenue. So new in fact, they haven't even had their grand opening. There's definitely a lot to say about this place, though. First of all, whomever designed it was going for form and not function. There is no signage, making it difficult to actually find (although I'm told that it's on the way). The front door looks like a wall. If the manager isn't there to let you in, you may not realize it's an entrance. Harkening one back to a scary movie in which the protagonist pulls the wrong book that reveals the wall as a secret passage. The real standout, though, was the service. I can't remember feeling more welcome and at home at a bar other than Ruth's Chris in Del Mar (actually Carmel Valley). My bartender Heather was charming, efficient, and engaging. She had recommendations (although she may have lied about the pairing of the Sangiovese and short rib) that were on par and apt. I went with the fish tacos to start...a very light dish in which the salty corn tortilla perfectly complimented the fish. Definitely a nice beginning. For an entree, I went with the combo of Lobster and Short Rib, with a side of truffled fries. A decent dish to say the least. The portions are perfectly sized and left me wanting more. For dessert, I went with a glass of Sauternes and the cheesecake. Not the best pairing, but individually spectacular. The cheesecake is covered in a coating of hardened chocolate that gives it qualities of a high-end peanut butter cup. The garnish of sorbet and fruit coolie add nothing to the dish, so just ignore them. I'll be back to SnT. In fact, because of the great service and atmosphere, I just may become a regular. Time will tell...
