It was a lackluster Wednesday, and a ragtag group of us were looking for new dinner options. After consulting Yelp, we landed on their best rated restaurant in a select group of neighborhoods. Man, I love that Yelp site. We landed on Kous Kous...a little Moroccan place in Hillcrest. While the parking was painful (although they do have a lot which they can validate), this turned out to be a cool little spot.
The waitress was super friendly, and patiently reviewed many of the menu options with us. The owner also took quite a bit of time to chat with us at the end of our meal--really nice guy and super passionate about what he does. The food was good, but not quite spectacular. I started out with their Traditional B’stila Roll and was delighted by the wonderful mix of flavors. For an entree, I had the Chicken Tagine. I was slightly less impressed with this dish; maybe because I had more chicken that night than I normally eat in a week, or I had the Oceanaire's chicken just a couple days earlier. Overall, the spices were good, but the meat was just a bit dry.
To finish up, we tried out a dessert sampler plate which came with 3 items (cookies, tea, and something I can't quite remember...I shouldn't take so long to write these reviews :-/). Being a fan of gigantic, overflowing chocolate lava cakes, this wasn't really my cup of tea (pun indended...hahaa, you're welcome), but it was a nice, light, sweet course to finish off a decent meal.
