Isn't it customary that when you go out to a restaurant for dinner that you don't cook or clean? Well, The Gaslamp Strip Club laughs in the face of tradition. Their whole schtick is that you cook your own food. Well, not all your own food...they did prepare a salad and the sides. Anyway, I was elected to cook the food for our table (one of the caveats of having chef on your resume).
So I took our plate of raw meat and basket of bread up to one of the community grills and went to work. Ordering...3 filets, one medium, one medium rare, one rare--one porterhouse, medium rare--and one order of chicken kabobs. There are a few types of spice mixes available for you seasoning needs, and a little chart that tells you how long to cook each type of steak to get to the desired temperature. It was actually painful to watch people to check the temp on their meat by cutting it in half. Oh well.
Anyway, even though our food was expertly grilled to perfection (except for the bread...sorry about that), I can't really recommend the Gaslamp Strip Club. I can see where it might be fun as a novelty, and you do save a few bucks on the meat prices, but I guess I just prefer somebody else cooking my food when I go out to eat. At least I didn't have to do the dishes.
