There's a couple things you should know about the bars along Garnet Street in Pacific Beach. One is that any bar called a "dive" bar is nothing of the sort. In fact these so-called "dive" bars would be considered upscale against basically any watering hole in the entire state of Texas. In the state of New Jersey they'd be considered elite. The second thing you need to know is that each and every bar is somehow aligned with one or more professional and college football teams. So if you're a Pittsburgh Steelers or a Virginia Tech fan, then you'll be definitely interested in Bub's. The rest of us will have to go there for good bar eats.

The tater tots are a dependable staple, and the rest of the periodically rotating menu is solid too. The steaky steak ums are great, and every once in a while there is a meatloaf sandwich that's really awesome. As with all the Pacific Beach bar locations, there are weekday happy hour specials to take advantage of. For the hectic nature of bar service, the waitstaff does a reasonably good job of handling things. The peanuts are free and there's no problem with throwing shells on the floor. Maybe that's the "dive" part of it?
