Viva Chicago Hot Dogs is a little strip-mall restaurant that sells, you guessed it, hot dogs. I've been here a few times, and the hot dogs and sausages are pretty good...in fact, I'd go so far as to say "better than average". They have a wide selection of dogs, sausages, and brauts and have some cool toppings as well. I don't particularly care for their seating strategy and I always find it difficult to order because their menu is a bit cryptic. In fact, this was my 4th time there and this was the first time I had a decent sense of what I had ordered before it had arrived.

Anyway, I went with the Firedog (Chicago style) and a Wisconsin Braut with sauteed peppers, onions, and mustard. Both were great, although on the Chicago style, the toppings can get a bit unwieldy. Fries were fine, but nothing to write home about.

One big plus is the the bathroom was immaculate. Nice job, cleaning crew.

This is a decent place to get a Chicago dog (as a native Illinoisan I feel qualified to judge). I just got a couple of regular-sized Chicago dogs and fries and it was too much to finish (and I had at first regretted my decision to not go ‘Jumbo’). The skins on the dogs were a little tough; maybe they were slightly overcooked, but the toppings all seemed fresh and overall it was really tasty. The fries were cooked and seasoned well. There was plenty of seating, but the tables are arranged in long rows without much space in between. It wasn’t a problem today because it was dead inside (it’s the day after New Year’s so I’m guessing that was the reason) but if the place was full it might be a bit too cozy. They’ve got a couple of HDTVs tuned into the NFL network which is a nice touch for a small place like this. I’m sure we’ll be back again.
