On a rare lunch downtown, we stopped off at Sixth Avenue Bistro. There were a few Cajun dishes recommended on the menu, so I went with the Jambalaya. It was pretty good; it had plenty of chicken and Andouille sausage which were both cooked and seasoned well. The sauce was just a little bland for my taste though. I spiced it up with some Tabasco, but I was just a bit disappointed. It looked a lot better than it tasted. Still, I may give it another shot if I’m ever down that way. They also have a red beans and rice dish I would want to try out also.

I took an hour out of my 96 hour coding marathon to get some breakfast, and fuel up with some caffeine. A few blocks from my place is the little hole-in-the joint that is 1 part diner and 1 part dive bar called Sixth Avenue Bistro. I had had lunch their before and was pretty impressed with the muffuletta sandwich, so figured I'd give their breakfast a go.

I went with their Smoked Cajun Frittata, with andouille sauage and mushrooms. Pretty good dish...it was smothered in a spicy mix of the listed ingredients and a butt-load of melted cheese. Flavor was good and the eggs were well prepared (unlike the last omelette I had a few blocks up on Sixth). Service was a tad impersonal, but otherwise on par. The accompaniments, English muffin and roasted red potatoes, were also good, making breakfast overall a win.
