This is a pretty cool spot down in the Little Italy neighborhood of San Diego which is part of the Cohen restaurant chain. I figured I'd drop in for a bite based on a recommendation rather than drive up to wine tasting (hey, I'm on vacation and am trying not to drive more than necessary for 2 weeks).
Rather than focus on the aesthetics, I'll stick with the food. First of all, portions are ludicrous. I started with the Brie appetizer (their signature dish). It comes with baked flatbread, roasted garlic, mole, jalapeno jelly, and several more things. This beast was a meal in itself and the many flavors work nicely together. Could easily be split amongst 4 or 5 people. Next up, the pork porterhouse.
Remember that rack of ribs that Fred Flintstone used to pick up in the opening credits? That's what you get...but add on gigantic sides of potatoes, fried onions, and mango-fruit salad. The meat was super tender and juicy. The sides, I'll have to get back to you on as they are sitting in a doggie bag in my fridge.
IG is a nice little spot. It does have the feel of a chain, and their on-tap beer selection is week (they seem to have 3 taps...one of which had beer available). The food was really good, thought and the prices are reasonable.
