COMMENT CARDS
The Field definitely has all of the characteristics of an Americanized Irish pub: dimly lit, lots of wood, and walls cluttered with framed pictures. My first with Irish cuisine brings to mind two words--"comfort food". I started with the Sausage Rolls, which are linked sausage wrapped in a pastry dough and served with spicy mustard. The texture of the sausage was soft and was almost indistinguishable from the pastry. The flavor, however, was quite good.
For an entree, I went with the Rasher and Cheese Boxty. A boxty, for the uninitiated, is almost like a crepe except the outer wrapping is made of hash brown potato pancake. My sense is that you could wrap just about anything in there and it would taste good. In this case, the filling was a bacon and cheese mixture (I was actually a bit disappointed because on my menu handout, there was a boxty sampler which wasn't available...maybe it's just for dinner).
I don't know if what I ate was authentic Irish cuisine, but I do know it tasted great. I'll be back for more boxties.
