The decor of Hexagone is elegant in an out-dated sort of way. We sat at the bar and were promptly and warmly greeted. Since all beer was being sold for $3 per bottle, we went with a Chimey and Duval. Another perk of the happy hour was the $6 appetizers. This prompted us to go all out...we ordered the scallops, the cheese plate and the charcuterie. The scallops and cheese plate were both good offerings (and great values), where the charcuterie was a bit unimpressive. Oh well, two out of three ain't bad.
Next up was the entree. I went with the beef short rib dish which was very impressive. The way the meat was cooked was what you would expect, but the sauce was spectacular. Very strongly seasoned, but not too over-the-top. Also impressively seasoned were the sides...a simple vegetable medley and potatoes.
Upon viewing the dessert menu, one item jumped off the page-the bananas foster cheesecake. I have to say, as brilliant as the idea is...the execution could have been better. The quality of the cheesecake was good...better than average, in fact, but there was just too little foster sauce and it was a bit too thick. It was still good, but could have been so much more.
All in all, this is a great little place. The service was impeckable and the food teetered between good and great. Throw in the happy hour special, and you can get out of there for super cheap. This place is definitely worth going out of the way for.
