I don't have the highest expectations when I look for food. That is to say, I don't EXPECT a stellar experience. I expect simply courtesy, and edible food. I expect the presentation of said food to match - somewhat - any pictorial rendering as well. These are the basics; as long as they are executed, then I'm pleased. I'm not elated, but I'm pleased. Domino's managed to disappoint me, even with just the basics. I was greeted with only a blank stare from the unenthusiastic (or comatose?) counter person. After mercilessly pelting me with monotone "suggestions" for add-on items, she then prompted me for my phone number. I gently explained that I would wait there for my pizza, and there was no need to call. She fired back that "they" require my phone number. Who is this "they"? Who are these nameless inquisitive people who want to compile a massive database of contact information on pizza lovers? Are "they" huddled in a dark room at the back of the store? Or are "they" securely bunkered in a top secret fortress of unknown location? I sorely wanted to ask the counter person who "they" were. As far as I could tell, it was just me, her, and a lethargic teenager deftly placing pepperonis in precise alignment on a medium thin-crust. So I gave her 10 or 12 random digits, waited 15 minutes, and carried my disappointing dinner back home. It tasted like Dominos. I mean, plastic dominos with some tomato sauce. Awful.
