If you can manage to find your way into Boomerangs, you're in for a cool experience. We went in for lunch and were warmly greeted. The decor is a bit of a hodge-podge. We sat in the bar area, which is adorned with plasma TVs, but also has tables and chairs that seem like they were picked up at a yard sale. Atmosphere won't bring you back to Boomerangs. The food, however, might.

The staple of the menu is a custom ordered burger. You get a litany of options and steps, but when you're done, you've got yourself a decent meal. Lots of spice options (which is great for me). I got a side of chili pepper onion rings which were so good, I had to take them home. The burger itself was a tad overcooked, and I would have preferred a toasted roll, but it was definitely meal-worthy.

I'll be back to check out more of their menu, which is quite inventive for a sports bar, and focuses on spicy fare.

I found this place by a Google search for the “Best Hamburger in San Diego” the other day when someone (who shall remain nameless [hint: he runs this site]) mentioned they were looking for a good hangover burger. We didn’t go that day, but thought of it today when looking for a new place to try. The flagship item on the menu is a “choose-your-own-adventure” style burger. You pick the size and meat, 3 “mixers” (these get incorporated into the meat before cooking), a cheese, some optional premium toppings and sauces, and then a side. I went with onion, garlic and bacon mixers with cheddar cheese and BBQ sauce with garlic pepper fries as my side. The burger was delicious; I’m on the fence about fries though, I think I may have to try another batch. Also the service was exceptionally friendly. I’ll have to keep this in mind for my next hangover (Superbowl Monday, perhaps?).
