Urban Solace continues to be one of the best bets in San Diego. We got to sit outside on another beautiful October night and eat great food. We ordered 3 appetizers: the shrimp and grits, goat cheese and squash dip, and biscuits. All were quite good, but the goat cheese/squash dip really stole the show. A velvety texture with a sweet start, yet savory finish is a masterpiece of flavor.

For an entree, I went with the highly-recommended meatloaf and a side of "duckaroni" (macaroni and cheese tossed with duck confit). The meatloaf is a bit sweet for my taste, featuring lamb, figs, and pine nuts. Not a traditional meatloaf by any means, but definitely worth a try.

Full as I was, I needed to go with dessert. The velvet cake to be exact. The cake was moist and the icing (cream cheese based) is excellent. If you're in the area, this place is a must try.

We went in for lunch today based on the FoodFinder rating of the Mac and Cheese and had a great experience. There was construction going on out on the sidewalk and we weren't even sure if they were open. When we walked in we were very warmly greeted and thanked for putting up with the work. We went on to have a great lunch. The food was excellent (althought the mac and cheese, while good, didn't live up to the hype) and the service was fast and friendly. I look forward to returning.
