As my main meal, I ordered the chicken which was cooked perfectly ~ moist and juicy with an abundance of flavors. The cous cous nicely complimented my choice. It was made with roasted pine nuts, black currants and fresh herbs that consisted primarily of rosemary and sage. Delicious. I have to say that it was even better the next day (the meal portions are generous so there is room for take aways).
Dessert was scrumptious. I had the crème brulee which was very hard not to finish the entire thing in 5 seconds flat. Again, very flavorful and made to perfection. Was not too sweet nor was it bland in any way. I have made crème brulee many times over the years and it really requires some work to get it “just right.”
This is a place I highly recommend. Great food, great beer and wine choice, and the ambiance were just delightful. For a lover of great food, who is known as a true “Anglophile” in so many ways, this was the perfect setting for a good time out with friends. Enjoy!!
Steak was well prepared though a tad overcooked for medium rare. Good cut of meat though, so that more than made up for it. Really tender and flavorful for a flatter steak. I wish the potatoes were more potatoey and less crispy. That’s an individual thing though – not a problem with their preparation. My fault for not asking for that.
French onion soup. Not quite rich enough. A bit bland. But the bread that came with it was first rate.
Great choice, Jeff. :)
The atmosphere? Considering where it sits on 30th Street anything less than the smell of the dryers at the nearby laundromat or the smoke from the cheap bar on the corner would be "nice". It's pretty and I would've enjoyed sitting inside but it was so nice on the patio that my friend and I chose not to.
The beer? NOW! Now, we're talking here. They have a great selection of ales ad micro-brew. I had and recommend the Green Flash IPA to anybody who still stands around long enough for me to start talking, again.
I sure do like the Green Flash IPA and there's no place in San Diego I'd rather meet a friend to have one than Jayne's Gastropub.
