If you haven't had enough stuff thrown at you lately, check out the Corvette Diner. Located in the heart of Hillcrest, CD attempts to recreate the atmosphere of a drive-in restaurant circa 1950. Customers are warmly greeted by having a handful of straws thrown at them and bid adieu with a pelting of Bazooka Joe bubble gum. The staff is dressed for the part, wearing poodle skirts and other garb of the era (I can't attest for its authenticity since everything I know about this age was learned from watching early episodes of Happy Days).

Bear in mind...you come for the atmosphere, not the food. Don't get me wrong, it's not bad...the quality is on par with what you'd find in an Appleby's or TGIF. There are a few fun things on the menu (e.g. I'm looking at you Rory--a hamburger with peanut butter on it). Today I went with a cup of Chili and the Philly Cheese Steak. The chili was actually really good. Could have used a little bit more spice, but great texture and flavor.

The cheese steak was on the bland side for me, although the cheese fry accompaniment (upgraded from regular fries for a few pence extra) was great. Tons of cheese melted all the way through the fries creating a delicious blob of fat and carbs.

Service, as always at CD, was loud, friendly, and smiley. If I had kids, I'd take them here about once per month. For me, a couple times a year is just about right.
