I love Sushi Town. Sure, as other reviewers have noted the sushi isn’t primo (it’s good, don’t get me wrong), but the conveyer belt system makes this place awesome. As someone who has a tendency to be a bit indecisive, it can be challenging at first. You need to quickly determine what the sushi is, decode the price, and then decide if it’s going in your belly. It can be hypnotic too; sometimes I find I’ve been staring at the line for several passes without having made a choice or said a word, just lost in following the progress of the sushi train as it makes it way to yummy station. Toot toot! YUM!

Sushi town is a little spot in Mira Mesa that features struggling-to-be-average food and a quirky but fun atmosphere. The places features a bar that boasts a sushi conveyer belt. If you've never seen such a thing, it's pretty cool. You grab a plate of anything that happens to roll by, and at the end of the meal, you're charged based on the color and count of your plates (the cost of a plate is determined by its color).

The process seemed a bit highfalutin for me (for those that read my posts...you know I'm a simple man ;)), so I just went with their lunch special. It consisted of a teriyaki bowl (I went with chicken), a drink, and a couple pieces of sushi. In general, I wasn't too impressed with the food quality. The sushi (spicy tuna) was a bit gamey, and the teriyaki bowl was decent, but unspectacular (although it was a big portion of food). I was able to upgrade from white to fried rice for the low price of $1, which I jumped on. I will say, we each got a simple salad before our meals that had a great dressing.

Well, I never thought I would love sushi served in a dive-bar type atmosphere from a conveyor belt, and today didn't change my opinion. That said, the atmosphere is cool and high on novelty factor and the service was really friendly. I'd go back; I'd probably even try the conveyer belt sushi next time.
