Miramar Cafe
(3 overall)

There is an ambiance to the MiraMar Cafe's dining room that speaks directly to my "Golly. Gosh. Linen tablecloths!" Wyoming mentality. The atmosphere is bright, understated, close without being claustrophobic and inviting. Serving breakfast all day also accommodates that "Sitchur' self down ritechere, pardner an put on ur feedbag" diner in me who is always looking for maple syrup and a cup of joe to remind me I'm going out to eat. It's a great place to meet with friends or take work associates for conversation while dining. I had their huevos rancheros and didn't leave a bite on the plate. That says something, right? Always one of my favorite little spots, nestled between McDonalds and Carl's Jr. See? You could do a whole lot worse than the MiraMar Cafe.

Jayne's Gastropub

I'm not an epicurean. Anybody who looks to a guy who ate Lean Cuisine every day for 2 years for dining tips deserves whatever the hell they get. Food? Yeah. I had a hamburger. It wasn't bad. With pepper, ketchup and a little mustard it tasted a lot like grilled ground beef. The fries were good.
The atmosphere? Considering where it sits on 30th Street anything less than the smell of the dryers at the nearby laundromat or the smoke from the cheap bar on the corner would be "nice". It's pretty and I would've enjoyed sitting inside but it was so nice on the patio that my friend and I chose not to. The beer? NOW! Now, we're talking here. They have a great selection of ales ad micro-brew. I had and recommend the Green Flash IPA to anybody who still stands around long enough for me to start talking, again. I sure do like the Green Flash IPA and there's no place in San Diego I'd rather meet a friend to have one than Jayne's Gastropub. |
